If you happen to follow me on Instagram (@bytesizednutrition), then it should come as no surprise that I like toast… a lot.
Yup, toast. As in golden brown, crunchy sliced bread. I know what you’re probably thinking (“And you call yourself a food blogger?!”), but let’s get something straight here. I’m not talking about plain ol’ toast that has been haphazardly schmeared with butter… although there is a time and place for for that (most notably, local diners circa 2am). Nope, I’m talking about toast piled so high with toppings that you need a fork to clean the mess you’ve made once you’ve demolished that sucker.
Oh, and if you happen to be one of those crazy people who believes that toast consumption should only be restricted to the morning hours, be prepared to question everything you’ve ever known about this so-called “breakfast” food. In fact, some of my best toast creations have come about as impromptu lunches, dinners, or snacks. SO. MANY. POSSIBILITIES. (more…)
August 31st is National Trail Mix Day! Skip the overpriced, additive-filled packaged varieties and whip up a batch of this protein-packed Crunchy Chickpea Trail Mix!
You know those moms that carry a giant satchel-size purse around with them, filled entirely with snacks, *just in case* their kids get hungry?
Only… I don’t have kids. And my idea of a “fruit-by-the-foot” is an extra-large banana.
Whether I’m heading out for a day filled with activities or just taking a stroll to the mailbox, you better believe I’ll have a snack in hand. In fact, I would leave the house without my car keys before I would leave the house without snacks (you think I’m joking, but it’s actually happened). Hanger is a real thing people, and it can strike at any time. Best be prepared.
September may be right around the corner, but that doesn’t mean that you have to trade in your beloved summer produce for pumpkin spice
lattes EVERYTHING quite yet. Keep the summer going with this light and refreshing Cantaloupe & Feta Bruschetta. Bursting with sweet, juicy cantaloupe, salty feta, crisp red onion, and savory basil and served on lightly toasted baguette, it’s the perfect dish for your end-of-summer gatherings!
In all honesty, I hadn’t planned on sharing a cantaloupe recipe at the end of August. But when I found myself carrying my new 8 lb 7 oz bundle of joy home from the Farmer’s Market last weekend, I knew it was time to get creative. Thankfully, I just so happened to have a potluck to attend yesterday that called for an appetizer or snack to share… So you better believe I wasn’t about to pass on the opportunity to
get rid of share some of the goods. (more…)
Welcome back! Thanks for bearing with me through this awkward beginner food blogger stage (because you’re totally here for me and not the cookies that are waiting at the end of this post, right? Don’t answer that…). Anyways, while I’ve got you here, let’s chat a minute.
Nowadays, it seems like healthy eating has taken on a whole new (and more complicated) meaning. I’m not sure if this is a reflection of increased media/marketing efforts or an increased interest in healthy eating (or a combination of the two), but either either way it has led to a whole lot of confusion – and frustration – among consumers.
