It’s no secret.. I LOVE salads. I love the way they look. I love the way they taste. And I love the way they make me feel.

But, I haven’t always felt this way.

I used to eat salads purely for the health of it. I’d pile some raw veggies on top of spinach, drizzle on some reduced-fat salad dressing, and call it a meal. That is, until I was hungry a half hour later.

I’m willing to bet that there are plenty of people out there right now suffering through mediocre salads, all in the name of “health”. But I’m here to tell you that that it doesn’t have to be that way. Believe it or not, you can build a salad that can not only tastes AMAZING, but also keeps you full for hours on end.

Case in point: this Pomegranate Farro Mason Jar Salad. (more…)

Hi there! Long time no talk!

Things have been pretty crazy around here lately. Between wrapping up my second-to-last semester of grad school (!!) and wrapping up Christmas presents (just kidding, I still have SO much shopping left to do), I’ve hardly had any time to devote to this little corner of the internet. BUT I’m back – and, in exchange for your patience, I’ve baked you some cookies…

Peppermint Mocha Crinkle Cookies to be exact.

Hi, my name’s Kara and I enjoy long, romantic walks along the beach Farmer’s Market.

Okay, so I’ve never had a dating profile (and never will), but if I did.. I’m pretty sure that’s what my intro would say. (Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about the beach too.. but living in Ohio means that the farmer’s market makes for a weeee more feasible of a date night – or date morning)

I’ll be honest – I didn’t discover the beauty of farmer’s markets until about 5 years ago (which is a real shame seeing as I grew up about 15 minutes from one of the best public markets in the country), but you better believe I’m making up for it now!

Kyle and I have recently made it a habit to start every Saturday morning with a visit to the local farmers market. And let me tell you, I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to start the weekend. Something about slowly strolling along the sidewalks, talking with the vendors, and sampling local goodies just makes my heart happy. (more…)

I know what you’re thinking… “Turmeric?? Isn’t that like soo 2016?”

This trendy yellow spice may have been all the rage in 2016, but that doesn’t mean it deserves to be shunned to the back of the pantry any time soon (especially with the impressive nutritional profile that it boasts). If you happen to still be in the dark about this bright yellow spice, then today’s your lucky day – prepare for a crash course in Turmeric 101(more…)

If you know me at all, then you know that I have a major sweet tooth. I’m the girl that will leave part of her dinner untouched, and yet jump at the first mention of dessert. I like to think that I have a second stomach and it’s reserved exclusively for dessert.

That being said, It should come as no surprise that I was a fan of baking long before I was a fan of cooking. In fact, it wasn’t until a few years ago that I finally began to experiment with dishes that DIDN’T revolve around sugar. These days, I tend to spend more time cooking than baking (probably a good thing considering cupcakes are probably not the most nutritious dinner option), but you’d better believe I still take advantage of any opportunity to bake up some sweet treats.
